BECAUSE SMARTS ALONE
JUST WON'T DO!
CONEXANT introduces a new network processor with an integrated 5-Port Ethernet Switch,
to provide a cost-effective home gateway solution.
The CX84200 network processor supports networking system solutions for a wide variety of
applications in the industrial and SOHO environment. The CX84200 is based on an ARM7TDMI
core, giving it the necessary flexibility to serve many different types of designs. In
addition to the high-performance core, the CX84200 also integrates an Ethernet switch that
supports five 10/100 Mbps Ethernet ports - all on a single chip!

Used in a broadband gateway application, CONEXANT's new network processor provides
Internet access sharing capability for multiple PCs, while at the same time supporting
Ethernet, HomePNA and HomePlug via an MII interface, IEEE 802.11b via PCMCIA Interface,
USB1.1 devices and other LAN-side home networking platforms.
The CX84200 supports WAN connectivity via the Ethernet ports, which are interoperable with
commercial broadband modems. All in all, this device represents the ideal platform for a
configurable broadband gateway design that needs to accommodate many diverse WAN/LAN
topologies.
Technical Details
A single package holds both the 75 MHz ARM7TDMI processor and the five port 10/100 Mbps
Ethernet switch, which consists of five embedded 10BaseT/100BaseTX DSP transceivers. An
Auto Negotiation function controls selection of the 10BaseT or 100BaseTX Mode. The CX84200
meets the specifications of IEEE 802.3, and it is available in a 208-pin PQFP package.
