resolution, to go along with the current maximum of 240x128 dots.
Very soon, RITDISPLAY expects to launch the first full-color OLED display on the market.
The exact date of sample availability was not yet announced at the time of writing, but
you can be sure it will be in the first quarter of 2003. Data sheets are scheduled for

Compared to conventional LCD solutions, OLEDs offer a superior viewing angle (> 170°),
faster reaction time (only several µs), light emission that requires no background
lighting and, as a result, an extremely flat design. Another significant advantage of
OLEDs is their excellent contrast (> 100:1), which makes them a true alternative to TFT
displays.
With an operating temperature range that extends from -20°C to +70oC, OLEDs are also well
suited for industrial applications. Another key parameter is power consumption. Because
OLEDs provide light emission without the use of backlighting, they consume less power than
LCD solutions. As a result, they are ideally suited for use in portable devices!
Since OLEDs have no need for
backlighting or color filters, they are able to do without delicate liquid crystals
altogether, unlike TFT LCDs. Not only does that make OLEDs lighter, it also gives them an
advantage with respect to luminescence efficiency.
