ETHERNET INTERFACE TACKLES TELECOM RIGORS

COMPRISING RIGHT-ANGLE HEADERS AND CABLE PLUGS, THE NEW SOFIX® FRONT INPUT/OUTPUT INTERCONNECTION SYSTEM FROM FCI WAS DEVELOPED TO COMPLY WITH TELECOM STANDARDS FOR BUILDING PRACTICES (IEC60917-2-2 AND IEC60297-3) AND HAS BEEN DESIGNED FOR A LIFETIME OF 20 YEARS IN ACCORDANCE WITH TELCORDIA GR-1217-CORE.

Fully shielded down to PCB level, the SOFIX system is suitable for the distribution of data signals through to the Gigabit/s range and for power supply.

SOFIX PCB connectors consist of three parts: a right-angle header, a metal shield cover and the associated spring contacts. The robust connector assembly ensures system ground integrity is maintained between card, front panel and cable plug.
FCI offers the high density connector system in two sizes, suiting standard 15- and 20mm-pitch card slots. For a 15mm card slot, the 2x4 position SOFIX connector supports both 10/100 BaseT and 1000 BaseT requirements. With a pitch of just 17.5mm, the assembly can provide connection for up to 45 lines per 10cm of linear board length, while two connector versions are provided for 20mm card slots: a 4x6 position connector handling up to 96 lines per 10cm of linear board length, and a 1x2 position power connector. Signal line connectors are available in pin-in-paste versions to facilitate fully automated assembly.

To accommodate a wide range of cable types, companion 2x4 and 4x6 position cable plug kits are offered in IDC versions for twisted pair cable and solder versions for twin or quad coaxial cable. For Gigabit applications, an alternative 2x4 position cable connector is offered which enables the cable to be soldered directly to wafers in the cable plug. All cable plugs include secure, captive Torx head locking screws.
The SOFIX front I/O interconnection system provides reliable high-speed connections between cards stacked within the same shelf or adjacent shelves and cabinets. The connector's short cable exit also means that the distance between cabinet door and front panel can be restricted to 38mm.
