ATMEL AND AUTHENTEC:
FINGERPRINT SOLUTIONS AVAILABLE FROM CODICO
Biometric procedures are increasingly
finding everyday application and are now widely accepted by users.
This is particularly true of fingerprint sensors, which have also become very easy to
handle. There are two types of operation available, the first being the strip sensor
across which the fingertip is swiped in order to create a series of strip scans.

These scans are then combined into an
image of the fingerprint using software similar to fax machine operation for further
processing. The second type uses a traditional flat sensor to capture the fingerprint and
process it in a single operation.
CODICO offers fingerprint sensors manufactured by ATMEL and AUTHENTEC. The devices use
different methods of measurement, with the ATMEL sensors using a thermal process to
capture the fingerprint and the AUTHENTEC models using an RF field. AUTHENTEC offers both
strip and flat sensors, while ATMEL offers strip sensors only. The enclosed table shows
all sensors currently available from CODICO.
Evaluation kits are also available, and they differ according to the manufacturer. The
ATMEL solution is a linux-based evaluation kit with an ATMEL ARM9 controller, while
AUTHENTEC offers a variety of kits depending on the application.
