PEAK PERFORMANCE FOR CLASS-D AMPS!

Power chokes from SAGAMI for Class D amplifiers. Extremely low ohmic impedance and high rated current. Also suited for standard power supplies!

One of the key components in any sound reproducing system is the power amplifier, or audio output amplifier. Integrated audio output amplifiers are most popular in consumer and automobile electronics, as well as professional or high-end applications.

Leaving conventional amplifiers out of the picture for a moment, Class D amplifiers utilize a technology called pulse width modulation. The input signal is converted into a sequence of pulses whose width is proportional to the amplitude of the signal.

The pulse frequency is typically 30 times higher than the highest signal frequency to be transmitted.

The main advantages of Class D amplifiers are efficiency and simplicity, with efficiencies between 80% and 90% possible. Compared to conventional analog amplifiers, the Class D switching elements (MOSFETs) dissipate virtually no power. The elements are either in the off state, i.e., no current flows, or they are on and drop only minimal voltage. As a result, power losses and radiated heat have little chance to occur.

SAGAMI developed its 7G series especially for Class D amplifier applications. The chokes are designed for amplifiers rated at up to 100W, and the unique flat wire technology used helps achieve very low ohmic resistance and high current loading (e.g., 10µH, DCR 4.9 ohms, RDC 8.9A). In addition to three wire-lead versions, designers may also opt for the SMD version, which fits two inductors inside the very compact package (2-in-1 type). Of course, all of the devices conform to RoHS directives.
