In addition to a large variety of other electronic products and components, SANYO offers a broad range of solar cells and photosensors.
However, unlike many competitors, SANYO does not use conventional crystal silicon, instead manufacturing its products from amorphous silicon. Because the latter is easier to fabricate, amorphous silicon technology provides significant cost benefits when compared to crystal silicon. Another key advantage is the variety of carrier materials that can be used in manufacturing the finished solar cells - leading to a standard SANYO product range that includes solar cells on flexible films and metals, as well as conventional glass products. As a result, SANYO solutions offer virtually limitless options when it comes to the mechanical shape of products. In terms of solar performance, amorphous cell technology also has certain advantages over crystal silicon in the diffuse lighting conditions often found indoors and at higher operating temperatures.

As for spectral sensitivity, amorphous photosensors correspond almost exactly to the human eye, making them the preferred choice for light intensity measurement applications.
