THE NEW POLA (POINT OF LOAD ALLIANCE) STANDARD FOR POINT-OF-LOAD (POL) CONVERTERS MEANS YOU CAN NOW BE ASSURED OF A TRUE SECONED-SOURCE OPTION. THE POLA ALLIANCE INCLUDES SEVERAL KEY MANUFACTURERS OF DC/DC CONVERTER MODULES, INCLUDING ARTESYN.
ARTESYN's PTH series is a new point-of-load converter family offering ultra-high power density, multifunctional options and a simplified design-in. ARTESYN and TEXAS INSTRUMENTS, who will manufacture the devices together with Astec Power, developed the new converters. The cooperation provides the industry with a true multi-sourcing option and meets the needs of customers looking to switch from discrete solutions to off-the-shelf converter products. And that's good news in today's market, where reliance on a single manufacturer is no longer a viable solution. The PTH series thus conforms 100% to the POLA standard in form, fit and function.
The POLA standard includes the following key control functions:

Power sequencing using an AUTO TRACK function that controls between power up and power down. Also accommodates an external controller, if needed.

Pre-bias startup capability to support startup when voltages are present on the output side of the converter (e.g., with ASICs).

Remote sensing for tight load regulation (in higher power PTH versions).
•
Marging Up/Down function to briefly adjust output voltage by +/- 5% for production testing.
•
Overcurrent Protection with automatic recovery and self-resetting Overtemperature Protection.
ARTESYN's PTH series of converters are designed to operate using only natural convection cooling. With forced air, the PTH series can operate at temperatures as high as +60°C to +85°C. The nominal input voltages are 3.3V / 5V /12V, with adjustable outputs between 0.8V and 5.5V. The smallest version has a rated current of 6A, and the largest 30A. With 95%-efficiency, the modules are extremely compact: 22.1mm x 12.7mm for the 6-Amp version and 34.8mm x 28.4mm for the 30-Amp version. The PTH series offers through-hole mounting, or reflow-compatible surface-mount versions in support of high capacity assembly. Safety approvals include TÜV EN60950 and UL/cUL60950.
