OXFORD: A NEW SUPPLIER
IN THE CODICO LINECARD
In early June 2006, CODICO became the
official distributor for OXFORD SEMICONDUCTOR in Germany and Austria.
Established in 1992, in the Milton Park Innovation Centre in England, OXFORD SEMICONDUCTOR
develops and markets communication and interface components for the consumer industry.
Starting from only UARTs in various designs at the company's inception, OXFORD
SEMICONDUCTOR today offers a wide range of high speed storage, FireWire audio, serial
communication and USB controller products.
High Speed Storage:
OXFORD offers components for interfacing SATA drives with USB or FireWire, as well as
bridge ICs for converting FireWire to ATA7/ATAPI or IDE. Additionally available to go with
these chips are evaluation boards and software drivers for a variety of operating systems,
and a version that encrypts the data stream for storage onto the drive is also offered.
The enclosed table provides a brief overview.
FireWire Audio:
OXFORD SEMICONDUCTOR offers two chips for data conversion between FireWire and audio
channels. The OXFW970 bridge IC supports the conversion of 8 audio outputs and 2 audio
inputs via a single FireWire connection, while the OXFW971 offers 16 audio channels that
are configurable as either outputs or inputs.

Serial Communication:
This product group includes PCI to serial, PC card to serial, USB to serial and parallel
to serial conversion ICs. For these product families, too, OXFORD offers evaluation boards
and drivers for various operating systems. The following table provides a brief overview.

USB Controllers:
These ICs were largely developed by the company Transdimension, which OXFORD acquired in
2005. The product offering gives users an easy means of adding a USB host, USB device, OTG
(On the Go), MMC or even a brand new CE-ATA interface to their applications.Of course, all
ICs are available as RoHS compliant versions.
I would be happy to entertain your questions!
