WiMAX World Europe 2006
This year's WiMAX World Conference & Exhibition, held between May 22nd and 24th, was the first ever in Europe. With Vienna specifically, the Austria Center Vienna - as the venue, the organizers chose a very central location.
In addition to the 3-day conference featuring comprehensive presentations on the topic of WiMAX (equipment tests, business models and the future of WiMAX), the event included a one-and-a-half day exhibition during which many chip manufacturers, as well as system integrators and service providers, showed their range of solutions and services. WAVESAT, a manufacturer in our linecard, and CODICO joined forces at the exhibition to introduce WAVESAT's DM256 baseband chip, as well as the first functional miniPCI cards for WiMAX and 3.5 GHz.
And, together with Redline, the world's first demonstration of a mobile WiMAX solution in operation was also given. Because Redline as yet does not use WAVESAT chips in its base station, the demonstration also proved to be an interoperability test between the WiMAX chipsets of several different manufacturers. For this purpose, WAVESAT's miniPCI card was installed in a commercially available laptop running on Linux.

After the link was established and video began transmitting without a hitch, the demonstration turned into a real attention getter for the system manufacturers and service providers on hand.
Although the main audience at the conference was made up of Europeans, there were many visitors from North and South America, Asia and Oceania, as well. With both the conference and exhibition such a great success, it came as no surprise when the organizer announced that the event will now be an annual affair.
I certainly look forward to seeing everyone again very soon!
