FCI EXPANDS ITS AIRMAX VS®! RANGE OF BACKPLANE CONNECTORS WITH NEW HIGH SPEED-CAPABLE VERSION.

FCI, a leading supplier of connectors and interconnection systems, has extended its AirMax VS® range of backplane connector systems with the addition of new high-power connectors.
The rightangle daughter card connectors are available with either 1x2 or 2x2 contact configurations per 12 mm module. Each module has a current capacity of up to 80A and a voltage rating of 150V. The corresponding backplane connector is equipped with protected contact openings and is UL1950 (finger probe) compliant.

These compact and cost-effective modules address customer demand for faster and more powerful processors on add-in cards, as well as lower working voltages, for which higher current is a requirement.

High-power AirMax VS connectors can be used to accomplish this goal in data processing and transmitting equipment, e.g., servers and storage systems, in communications equipment, e.g., switches and routers, as well as in applications for medical electronics and instrumentation.

The modules are designed for use with all AirMax VS signal connectors. However, because the new power connectors are compatible with the new hard metric equipment technology, they can also be used with FCI's Millipacsā 2mm hard metric backplane connector system.

AirMax VS connectors are designed for flat contacts, except for minimal forming at the opposing plug connector's mating interfaces, to enable the use of a high conductivity base metal. Airflow passages in the insulating connector bodies allow air to flow through the mated connectors and over a large percentage of the contact surfaces, thus permitting heat to escape more easily. As a result, the airflow passages contribute to the modules' higher current-carrying capacity.

The AirMax VS modules employ an EON-compatible tail for press-fit PCB termination, and the two mating lengths of the module contacts provide the capability for sequential mating of power and signal contacts.
