ASTRODYNE: 100W/150W POWER SUPPLies WITH A 2" x 4" footprint

The latest round of power supply miniaturization is upon us!

And this is the new reality: Power supplies that occupy a surface area of 50mm x 100mm while delivering 100W of output power - under pure convection cooling at an ambient temperature of up to 50°C. With 20CFM forced air cooling, the rated continuous load increases to 150W.

The new 100W to 150W power supplies go by the name ASM150 / ASL150. By using a new, patented topology, ASTRODYNE was able to adapt the industry standard 2"x 4" design to achieve a previously unattained power density.

The overall height of 30mm makes for an easy fit with any type of 1U application, and, at 160g, the devices surely won't "throw around their weight." The worldwide input range extends from 90VAC to 264VAC. Adding this to safety approvals, with CB report, according to IEC60601 for medical applications (ASM150) and IEC60950 for general use (AS150), the new power supplies can be easily implemented within many applications - thus ensuring a fast international time to market.

The devices have furthermore been designed to uphold EMV limits according to EN55022 (class B). The main output optionally delivers 100W/150W at 12V, 24V or 48V, trimmed to +/-6% via potentiometer, or 90W/100W at 5V.

An additional 12V output is available to supply a cooling fan - an important thermal management consideration, especially for applications where the internal temperature exceeds +50°C. The low-end operating temperature is specified at -20°C, though several parameters may deviate from their specified values when reached. These power supplies integrate the following protective features on board: overtemperature cut-off with automatic reset, overcurrent cut-off between 110% and 130% of the rated current, as well as overvoltage cutoff to protect downstream circuitry in the event of a fault condition.

The new ASTRODYNE power supply family - featuring a previously unattained level of miniaturization - was specifically developed for use in new-generation applications that demand higher currents from the standard
2" x 4" footprint.

So, if you are in the early planning phase of a new design project, you owe it to yourself to take a closer look at these modules. The CODICO team would be happy to supply you with samples in short order!
