THE FIRST MCH CONNECTORS FOR MICRO-TCA BY YAMAICHI!

Already a pioneering force for AdvancedMC connectors, YAMAICHI ELECTRONICS is now also blazing the trail for MCH.

Yamaichi's new CN084 series of MCH connectors offers four different designs that can be combined to create various different MCH module arrangements. The connectors serve as adapters between the MicroTCA backplane and the MCH (MicroTCA Carrier Hub) module. The MCH module functions as the controller card for the AdvancedMC modules and previously carried the industry designation "Virtual Carrier Manager" (VCM).

To date a total of seven combinations have been realized between backplane and MCH (see table), thus the design is characterized by a high degree of configuration flexibility. There are up to four so-called "tongues" on the module side, which are connected to the backplane via the 170-pin backplane signal connector - also available from Yamaichi as part of the CN080 series. As a result, the four versions of the CN084 series offer from 170 up to a maximum of 680 contact pins.

Both the backplane and the MCH side are card-edge connections. The CN084 series therefore enables a reduction of the insertion and extraction forces between the CN080 backplane connector and the MCH module.

A further significant advantage of using the MCH connector is that it balances the mechanical tolerances during installation of the MCH module. Undesirable play between individual MCH modules can be eliminated with the help of the assembly tools, which firmly fit the module to the connector and thus stabilize it. This ensures a precise and parallel alignment when installing modules with up to 4 tongues.

Like all connectors conforming to the MicroTCA specification, the CN084 is high-speed compatible for transmission rates of 12.5Gbps. Beyond this, however, tests have shown that further potential exists for future applications. Like all Yamaichi products for high-frequency applications, the high-frequency characteristics of the CN084 are excellent.

Dedicated, easy-to-use tools that simplify assembly and handling of the CN084 series are also available.
