ATMEL DATAFLASH - YOUR
DATA LOGGER
NOW SHIPPING. ATMELS's FLEXIBLE, LOW-COST SERIAL INTERFACE FLASH MEMORY WITH SRAM BUFFER -
AN EXTREMELY FAST DEVICE THAT COMES IN A VARIETY OF STANDARD PACKAGES, OR IN A MULTI MEDIA
CARD (MMC) FORMAT.
ATMEL's DataFlash product lineup offers flash memories with a density of 1 MBit to
128MBits,
as well as an integrated SPI Interface. The larger memory versions also include an 8-Bit
parallel interface.

The latest device is a 128-MBit version that is manufactured using ATMEL's all-new
eSTAC flash technology, which enables two
bits of information to be stored on a single cell.
The integrated 8-Bit parallel interface achieves a read throughput of up to 20 MByte/s,
while the serial interface offers 5 MByte/s max. - more than enough for many applications.
The new version is also equipped with 2 onboard SRAM buffers, which allow receiving data
while a page in the main memory is being reprogrammed and writing a continuous data
stream. If a buffer is full, the chip automatically writes that buffer's information to
the flash sector, while the second buffer can be filled
without interruption. In this fashion, normal operation is not impeded.
ATMEL DataFlash products suit a variety of different applications, e.g., data logging,
boot code memory, voice memory, etc. Due to the highly integrated design, a number of
different packages are available, including an MMC version with 2-, 4- or 8-MByte capacity
that can be used as an exchangeable storage medium.
