MICREL's LOW VOLTAGE, HOT SWAP POWER CONTROLLER FAMILY

MICREL'S MIC2583R HOT SWAP CONTROLLER IS IDEAL FOR APPLICATIONS THAT REQUIRE THE SAFE CONNECTION OF DENSELY PACKED BOARDS TO A LIVE CIRCUIT. THE NEW DEVICE COMES IN A SPACE-SAVING QSOP-16 PACKAGE.

The main advantages of the MIC2583R are:
1) integrated 20V surge voltage protection, to eliminate the need for external protection circuitry
2) the low operating voltage (down to +2.3V) permits a +2.5V hot swap capability
3) dual level fault protection eliminates false tripping, while providing fast reaction to
short circuits

Like the entire MIC2582/MIC2583 family, the new hot swap controller offers robust fault protection and inrush current control for systems operating between +2.3V and +13.2V.

The devices are designed to control the system voltage supply of external N-channel MOSFET switches during hot swaps, which prevents unwanted input surges.
The MIC2583R is also equipped with auto-retry fault recovery, a feature that powers down the system in case of a short circuit, then gradually reactivates it until the fault is removed. This eliminates the need for system intervention on the part of the user.

MICREL has added lots of other goodies, like power-good output, power on reset for programmable processors, fault status signaling and a fast load capacitance charge and discharge capability.

These controllers were designed to meet the needs of mass storage and telecommunications system applications that require a highly reliable hot swap capability.

Introducing the MIC2582/83/83R Single-Channel Hot Swap Controller:
