SANYO: RoHS COMPLIANT CAPACITORS

COMPLIANCE WITH THE RoHS DIRECTIVE IS A VERY HOT TOPIC THESE DAYS. BECAUSE A CLEAN ENVIROMENT HAS BEEN A HOT TOPIC FOR SOME TIME NOW AT SANYO, THE MANUFACTURER IS ALREADY SET TO PRODUCE VIRTUALLY AL ITS CAPACITOR PRODUCTS IN CONFORMANCE WITH THE DIRECTIVE.

The following is an update for the various SANYO product groups:

POSCAPs:

These capacitor products were originally developed in conformance with RoHS, therefore they pose no problem. The current product designations will remain as they are.

OS-CONs:

Two different base materials are used to manufacture this line:

1. Older OS-CON versions use organic semiconductive electrolyte. They originally used a PVC shrinkdown tube containing lead, but now use a PET shrinkdown tube. The conversion to PET is still in process for some older products, while almost all newer versions have already been converted. The product designations will remain the same, with a "G" added to indicate those devices using the lead-free shrinkdown tube.

  2. Newer OS-CONs use conductive polymers. They were developed lead-free in conformance with RoHS from the start. Their product designations will therefore remain unchanged.

Elcaps:

Sanyo has already converted most of its elcap series to conform with RoHS as well. An exception is the ultra low impedance CV-EX series, where the proper technology is still in development.
SANYO elcaps that conform to RoHS use a new product designation, with a few examples provided below:
The SMD CV-AX series is now designated CE-AX, and all RoHS compliant SMD series follow this pattern, i.e., instead of "CV" the lead-free versions now use "CE" to designate RoHS conformance.
A similar system is used for SANYO's wire capacitors: e.g., the existing MV-AX is now designated ME-AX for the RoHS compliant (lead-free) versions, and the same pattern is followed for the other wire cap series.

If that still sounds a little foggy, please feel free to inquire with CODICO regarding RoHS compliance for a given product!
