ExpressCard™ is a new memory card standard developed by the Personal Computer Memory
Card International Association (PCMCIA) to replace the legacy PC Card standard.

ExpressCard™ supports both USB2.0
and PCIExpress™ with two available module sizes: ExpressCard/34 and ExpressCard/54.
Both offer considerable space savings compared to existing market standards, e.g., such as
CardBus.
The FCI connector modules support both top and bottom mounting of slots to the PCB and
offer a choice of different system configurations: card push ejection, shielded versions
and connecting guides are all available. Top-mounted versions (slot standoffs of 1.8mm or
2.2mm) help optimize board space by leaving room for other SMT components. The new FCI
series includes both host connectors and ExpressCard™ card kits, and the SMT
connectors are packaged in tape and reel for automated assembly processes. The entire
series is RoHS compliant and thus supports lead-free soldering.
