YAMAICHI EXPANDS PRODUCT RANGE FOR ADVANCED MC APPLICATIONS!

MicroTCA connector with compression mount technology now also available (CN080 series)



Munich, February 2006 - YAMAICHI ELECTRONICS announces the development of a MicroTCA-compatible backplane connector. Currently being drafted by the PICMG, MicroTCA is a standard that complements AdvancedTCA / AdvancedMC for telecom applications. Thanks to its compression mount technology (CMT), the CN080 connector is suitable for high transmission rates of up to 12.5Gbps. CMT also facilitates connection to the backplane by eliminating the need for drilled (press-fit) through holes or soldering.

Essential features of the MicroTCA system include a small system footprint, low power requirements, small module size, low cost and advanced management facilities. The modular, open-system design is a complementary solution to AdvancedTCA that targets cost-constrained applications, e.g., small scale network elements and service nodes, modular telecom line units, micro base stations, wireless access systems or PBX. MicroTCA has also generated interest in non-telecom market segments, such as medical and transportation.

General product description for the CN080 series:
YAMAICHI's MicroTCA connector (CN080-170-0001) utilizes a card-edge design and serves as a backplane connector with CMT technology.
It is mounted directly on the backplane and can be used for AdvancedMC, fabric and VCM cards (MicroTCA carrier hub).


The technology was developed to achieve high-speed transmission (beyond 12.5 Gbps) plus high-density mounting capabilities, two key requirements for next-generation telecommunications systems.

AdvancedMC for ATCA (CN074 series):
YAMAICHI ELECTRONICS also offers all four specified AdvancedMC connectors with compression mount technology (CMT): B, B+, AB and A+B+.



Future product developments:
A MicroTCA carrier hub (MCH, formerly VCM plug) and other products for the MicroTCA and AdvancedTCA standards are currently under development.
