15W "MIDGET" POWER SUPPLY MEASURES 66 / 50 / 28
Why keep "shooting at sparrows with a cannon?"
There are many arguments for using just one power supply to operate all of your devices: good availability, carrying a single stock number for all applications, well trusted technology, etc.
However, with power supplies this usually results in an undesirable chain reaction: The efficiency curve drops off noticeably in the lower 20% of the load range and some components will in turn operate under higher "stress" than they would at full load. The power supply thus becomes less reliable, its size too large and its generated self-heat undesirably high.
But ASTRODYNE's PV15 series offers a sound technical alternative: a compact, low-power power supply rated for a continuous output of 15W and supporting optional peak overloading for less power hungry applications.
These build-in type power supplies are enclosed in a metal cage and features screw terminal connections. The devices keep their cool throughout the specified temperature range, requiring a power derating only in the range of +60°C to +70°C. Even better, they are guaranteed to operate down to a lower limit of -20°C. The integrated EMI filter complies with EN55022 Class "B" and helps save board space. According to the manufacturer, additional mains filters are required only in rare cases. International approvals and a rated input range of 90VAC to 264VAC at 47Hz to 440Hz support virtually unlimited use worldwide. The available outputs range from 5VDC to 48VDC and are trimmable to +/-6%, and the series also features overvoltage and overcurrent cutoff protection!
