FCI: PCI EXPRESS® CONNECTORS NOW AVAILABLE IN AN SMT VERSION!
FCI, a leading manufacturer of connectors and connector systems, is first in the industry to offer an SMT version of a direct connector (Card Edge) for PCI Express®, with parts designed for fully automated mounting.
FCI's vertical-type direct connector is designed for SMT termination, with available versions offering 36, 64, 98 and 164 contact positions. The new connector is thus suited for x1, x4, x8 and x16 serial PCI Express high-speed applications.
The SMT connectors feature a coplanarity of 0.1mm and have SMT retention clips along the sides for mechanical stability. Tray packaging is available to support fully automated SMT board assembly, as is tape & reel packaging with additional mounting caps.
PCI Express® connectors are designed for 1.6mm daughter cards (1.58mm / 0.062" add-in cards).

They feature a specialized pin polarization and card guidance mechanisms. In addition to the top-mounted SMT devices, FCI offers versions with through-hole technology (THT), and for Pin-in-Paste (PIP) and press-fit mounting.
Due to standardization and the resulting high production numbers, this FCI connector system is a very cost effective solution for providing high data-rate connections between PCBs. It is well suited for a broad range of applications, from data and telecommunications technology through to consumer, measurement and industrial electronics.
