CODICO IMPULSE 03/2007

RUN 4 FUN, X TWO!

CODICO was once again represented at the 2007 edition of the Austrian Womens Run - this year, however, with even more "girl power!" When the starting gun sounded at 10 AM on June 3, 2007, 11 CODICO ladies were off and running and all of them managed to master the 5km course. The two CODICO teams finished 17th and 84th, respectively, and that in a field of 180 teams!

"The Womens Run was my first competitive sporting event ever. Thanks to the support of my wonderful colleagues and a bit of hard training, I mastered it quite well. The team spirit among all the CODICO ladies was wonderful to behold! I do want to be a part of the next Womens Run, but maybe just as a fan at the finish line!"

Hannelore Feleki: 33:27.4

"The Womens Run gave me a chance to train my fitness and do something good for my body. My thoughts during the race: I'll just take it easy to make sure I complete the 5km and hopefully I won't finish last, since I did get passed a lot."

Petra Geister: 27:37.4

"Our CODICO team was very motivated and the 'fan club' consisting of co-workers and family members was also great, cheering us on with all their might along the course. The mood was superb and the number of participants - 11,500 women - was gigantic. I really enjoyed the experience, though I had to struggle during the last kilometer. The thrill I felt at having completed the run made it all worth while, and I will definitely do it again next year!"

Sonja Hermann: 33:47.2

"I especially liked the race's start, with so many women running together and fired on by the music. We were fortunate to have ideal weather - not too hot and, importantly, no rain. We ran by various bands positioned along the course, which motivated me even more. The finish was kind of odd: We thought we had crossed the line but it turned out there were at least two ad banners placed before the actual finish line. It was a little confusing, but my first Womens Run in Vienna's green Prater was wonderful overall."

  Barbara Maier: 26:56.6

"For me, this year's event was again fantastic!! I thought it was great that our team had more than doubled in size, and that everyone was so enthusiastic and shared in the good time."

Michaela Menghini: 37:15.7

"It was my first time participating in such an event and it was really an amazing experience!"

Miriam Kaitan-Aichberger: 34:12.4

"I had great fun. I still can't believe that running could be such a thrill. The best part was the focus on team spirit, instead of on the competitive aspect! I'm sure I want to do it again next year. Who knows, maybe we'll dare to try the 10km race?"

Elisabeth Streiter-Bax: 24:01.3

"The participants grew from 5 to 11 CODICO girls this year, and I'm very happy that we motivated so many to join us! Though I have a number of races in my legs by now, this event was quite special and I had lots of fun. The weather and overall mood were both exceptional, and maybe we'll manage to get a team together for the 10km event in 2008. My special thanks go out to CODICO management for sponsoring us and providing CODICO T-shirts."

Sandra Strohmaier: 25:58.7

"I thought the Womens Run was fantastic! I did it for the first time and I was amazed how superbly everything was organized by our co-worker Barbara Maier and also by the event organizer. Of course, I'm also very pleased with my finishing time. I didn't think I had it in me to run under 26 minutes and finish second on such a strong CODICO team. That made it all the more fun. I'm sure this wasn't my last Womens Run and I would be very happy to head to the starting line with a CODICO team again next year!"

Olena Waglechner: 33:07.5

"Considering that I never much liked running and that I had never previously finished more than 2km, I was very pleased with my performance. Perhaps I have my Pilates training to thank for it! The feeling at the finish was absolutely intense: joy, relief, warmth, energy, and especially the pride of seeing so many women finish. Between kilometer 3 and 4 I thought 'What am I doing here, I can't make it any further,' but several other runners motivated me not to stop. Now I'm so happy that I ran. It really was loads of fun!
I can't say that I've learned to love running but the Womens Run did show me a new perspective, namely how satisfying and fun it can be to set goals together and then attain them!"

Ines Wurdinger: 32:01.5

"As an amateur I competed at this year's Womens Run for the first time, but I'm sure it will be a fixed date on my race calendar in the future! It was fantastic to experience how euphoric the event made so many of the runners feel. And it once again showed that we CODICO girls can be a superb team even outside of business hours!"
