ANOTHER SPORTS HIGHLIGHT: THE TRIDONIC ATCO FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT!
Finally, on June 30, 2007, the day had arrived for the start of the 5th international football tournament hosted by TRIDONIC ATCO in Dornbirn, Austria - and CODICO was again invited!
Olé, olé, a weekend of chasing the "round leather" awaited us! After the uniforms had been washed, the socks ironed, the cleats sharpened and the players' condition brought up to speed, a CODICO contingent of 14 men and 7 women set off for Dornbirn on Friday, June 29, itching for action. The excitement was already noticeable on the plane, as many burning questions were about to be answered: What teams awaited us this year? How would we fare? And did we possibly have it in us to achieve a podium finish?
Upon arrival, everyone headed straight to the football pitch to enjoy the traditional get-together of competing teams - the year's first chance for all participants to meet. The pitch was bustling with familiar and unfamiliar faces alike, from managers, friends and customers through to long-term partners and competitors. It was soon clear that the weekend's main focus would be on kicking the ball around in good company and having lots of fun doing it!
As in the past, the organizational team headed by Bernhard Apsner had managed to set up a terrific evening, not to mention the day of competition that was yet to come. To the extent permitted by the police, everyone sang, danced and enjoyed a few beers together, with CODICO leading the way. As always, our battlers were brilliant together, unleashing unusual combinations and light-footed attacks in the direction of the goal: In this case, the bar, in hopes that each sip would lead to a score on the game-day pitch. In the end, it was the best training a team could wish for!

The bold play continued for real on the next day, with the CODICO men dribbling, tackling, flanking and running until they dropped - of course, always getting back on their feet. Alas, the only thing they forgot in the heat of battle was to outscore their opponent! Nonetheless, as in previous years the team only got better in the course of the tournament. Thus, the longer the ball rolled, the more accurately our players managed to strike it.
Before the day was over, our battling football "bunnies" also received their turn to storm up and down the field. The women, too, put on quite a show, inciting the crowd to repeated outbursts of revelry. Though our teams didn't reach the podium in the end, all of us had shown world championship form at celebrating!
In closing, we wish to thank everyone who made the tournament and our participation in it possible, especially those who so diligently helped to organize the events, to make the many phone calls and, in general, to keep the show going on. The effort certainly paid off, as it was once again an unforgettable weekend!
