DENSI-SHIELD I/O™ CONNECTOR SYSTEM
THE NEW FCI FRONT I/O™ CONNECTOR INCREASES BOARD EDGE DENSITY AND IMPROVES SIGNAL INTEGRITY!
FCI's Densi-Shield I/Oä connector system was specifically designed to meet the stringent demands of rack-mounted telecommunications equipment. The system comprises up to 8 pair connectors that enable a reduced side-by-side pitch of only 12.5mm and provide PCB-level EMC protection, for assured data transfer rates of up to 2.5GBits/s and beyond.
The new system allows designers to create front I/O connections for plug-in units with a mere 15mm of space between them, at the same time supporting data transfer with or without signal conditioning. Densi-Shield I/Oä connectors assure reliable high-speed interconnections between plug-in units stacked within the same rack or adjacent racks and cabinets, while the shorter cable exit length also helps avoid contact with the cabinet doors.

Combining a right-angle board connector and a straight cable connector, the Densi-Shield I/Oä system uses shielded plastic wafers carrying 2 embedded signal pairs each, separated by an optional ground pin. The largest version offered consists of four plastic wafers providing up to 8 signal pairs or 4 bi-directional channels per connector assembly. The system's modular concept makes it easy for designers to scale the connector pin count as needed.
Densi-Shield connectors provide a high level of EMC protection, and the board connector's overall metal housing features all-round surface mount pads for direct PCB soldering. Spring tabs ensure grounding with the frontpanel cut-out and cable connector, and the signal ground path is isolated from EMC ground.
The cable connector comes with optional Torx head, hexagonal, or thumb tightened locking screws, and its double-ferrule crimp system combines with the robust back shell to ensure EMC continuity and provide enhanced cable strain relief. Compatible cables are available from Leoni High Speed Cables within the company's ParaLink® product family.
Designed to simplify PCB assembly, the Densi-Shield I/O right-angle connector's single-piece construction supports automatic component insertion, while its pin-in-paste compatible signal and ground pins meet the requirements of standard and lead-free surface mount solder processes.
