ZARLINK’S CLOCKCENTER PLATFORM!

ZARLINK’s ClockCenter Platform delivers timing solutions for Optical Transport Network (OTN), Synchronous Ethernet (SyncE) and Free Run applications. To accommodate the ever-growing demand for video and mobile traffic, Carriers are forced to support multiple services over a single network, so they are deploying OTN that can transport a wide range of  services such as storage, SONET/SDH, digital video, Ethernet and more. ZARLINK’s single-chip synchronous clock translators accept any input frequency from 1 Hz to 750 MHz and generate any output frequency from 1 Hz to 750 MHz with low jitter.

ZARLINK offers single, dual and quad channel clock translators:

These devices can also be used for SyncE line card applications for clock-rate translation from backplane to transmit PHY and for clock-rate translation from PHY receive clock to backplane. With the sub-ps jitter at the output, SyncE GE and 10GE PHYs can be driven directly:

The DPLL used in the transmit side uses two synthesizers to generate XAUI clocks. The DPLL used on the receive side translates RCV clock to 19.44 MHz for the backplane.

For the SyncE Central timing card applications that require Wander filtering and precision hold over, two devices are offered:
Both the ZL30153 and ZL30154 are highly integrated devices that can be used in traditional Master/Slave timing card devices or in a smaller system where a single PLL is used to perform functions of both timing and line card PLLs:

ZARLINK provides full solutions for Network Timing:

Free Run Silicon Clock Generation
While equipment manufacturers have aggressively pushed integrated circuit (IC) suppliers to deliver more functionality in a single chip, the timing source has traditionally remained as a standalone component. This means that in many end designs, multiple oscillators must consume a large portion of the board space to deliver the range of frequencies required by CPUs, memories, RF receivers, DSPs, and more.
ClockCenter Universal Clock Generators are highly programmable devices that can generate up to 20 clocks with any frequency from 1 KHz to 750 MHz with low jitter. This allows designers to replace numerous oscillators:

The flexibility and programmability of the clock generators allow designers to translate, generate and synthesize any output frequency required from a single fixed frequency oscillator, allowing to dramatically simplify your inventory and reduce the Bill of Materials (BOM) complexity. Now, a single oscillator part number and a single IC clock generator part number can satisfy any clocking requirement.

Numerically Controlled Oscillator
ClockCenter is now offering Numerically Controlled Oscillator capability in ZL30237 device which means each synthesizer has its own fine programmable frequency control. The ZL30237 offers capabilities similar to that of a Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCXO), but the frequency control is achieved by programming a digital value as opposed to varying an analog voltage. Due to the VCXO like capability the ZL30237 is targeted at customers implementing PLL solutions using VCXO’s, for example those customers using an FPGA to control a DAC then a filter and driving a VCXO.  The DAC/VCXO can be replaced with one of the ZL30237 synthesizers with digital filtering done by the FPGA.  Typical applications include OTN, video and audio applications as well as a broad range of applications.
