CODICO: ALWAYS ON THE RUN!

Thursday, September 10, 2009:
At approx. 5PM, CODICO’s 12 courageous runners headed off to Vienna’s Ernst Happel Stadium for the Business Run 2009!  In all, some 16,000 runners and walkers would be there to tackle the 4.2 km course through the Vienna Prater on this warm summer evening. In addition to sports, the participants’ focus was on team spirit and a chance to share a fun time with colleagues.  As a special highlight, the Business Run finished inside Happel Stadium, where the atmosphere likened that of a typical European Cup soccer match, to help push the runners onward on their final lap.  Fortunately, the weather gods were in a friendly mood this year, which helped all participating CODICO teams – the “Fast Snails,” “Lame Lamas,” “Flat-Footed Gazelles” and “3 AAAmigos” – to finish with top times!!!

I’m glad I took part again this year.  Our spirits were high and the entire team had a great time.  I must admit, those last paces through Happel Stadium were very special, with all that non-stop applause raining down – even if it was coming from the loudspeakers!

The excitement in the air at the Business Run was very motivating, and that pushed me to a result that I’m quite happy with.  I usually jog at a leisurely pace, one that’s slow enough to still be able to chat with my running partner.  So I wound up pretty breathless at the Business Run.  But I’m now motivated to do even better next year!
I would like to thank the CODICO management for once again making our participation at the event possible!

Manuel Hellerschmid, 27:27.9
It was my first Business Run, and I really liked it.  I may not have run a top time, but I did have lots of fun with my nice colleagues. I’m sure I’ll be faster next time.

Gordan Hrboka, 22:31.9
I had been thinking a long time about doing something good for myself and my body, meaning to start some sort of regular sports activity.
The Business Run was a perfect opportunity to turn my good intentions into action, especially since I knew that I probably wouldn’t begin training at all if I didn’t start soon.  The evening turned out to be fantastic – not just from a sports aspect, but also because it was such a huge social event.  There were so many people there, and everyone had great fun.  Thanks to this year’s run, I’m now training regularly and I’m already looking forward to the next Business Run.  I wouldn’t want to miss it for anything!

Johannes Kornfehl, 23:23.3
It was a warm evening in late summer and I had “Business Run” marked down in my calendar.  I had never experienced an event with 16,000 running enthusiasts at the starting line!  With such a huge crowd, I was definitely expecting lots of pushing and shoving.  In fact, it did take some time before we were able to start, and I had to sidestep runners from time to time.  But it turned out to be a wonderful evening with my colleagues – especially being able to enjoy a sport together.  Business Run 2010 here we come!

Csaba Pinter, 21:14.5
This year’s Business Run was my first.  I particularly liked the great atmosphere at the event!  I want to participate again next year with my 3AAAmigos teammates.  We’ve set a goal to improve our individual times, and also to do better in the team competition!

Benjamin Popotnig, 25:37.5
Despite the throng (some 16,000 participants!), which was to be expected, it was a successful event.  I was really impressed with my colleagues’ performances, and that makes me even more excited that I will be seeing some of them again at the Vienna Night Run – because I’ll have a chance for “revenge!” I’m also looking forward to doing the next Business Run!

Eugen Stierböck, 20:43.1
My first Business Run was also my first organized running event ever! There were too many people there for my taste, since we were running as a relay team and kept having to zigzag around like rabbits to wind our way ahead.  I’m sure we lost a great deal of time because of that.  But I also have to say that I didn’t prepare at all for the run, so I’m happy with my time for the most part!

Elisabeth Streiter-Bax, 19:11.8
This time, 4 teams = 12 "Codicoers" – amidst about 16,000 other runners! It did give me an unbelievable feeling, though we didn’t have much maneuvering space on the course.  We still had a good time!

Peter Strieg, 20:22.8
It was my first time at this great event!  Fortunately, the weather was superb.  I could have run a better time, but it took a while to zigzag through the masses.  I felt like “Herbie” from the old “Love Bug” movies whenever I passed people.  We want to do it again next year.  In fact, our team – the 3AAAMigos – has already set lofty new goals!

Sandra Strohmaier, 21:34.0
Some 16,000 runners enjoying the perfect weather and a “sprint” through Ernst Happel Stadium – that best describes the Business Run 2009!
I managed to fight my way through the masses in a time of 21:34.0 for the 4.2 kilometers. Our team, the “Lame Lamas,” came in third among CODICO entries. We hope to get more CODICO teams to do the run next year. It was definitely a lot of fun, and I look forward to doing the next one myself!

Olena Waglechner, 27:27.30
I joined the team whose name fit best to me: the “Fast Snails,” meaning too fast to be a snail but too slow to be any other animal.
In all seriousness, I had an easier time with conditioning this year, and so I made it all the way to the finish line. What more could one want? I definitely plan to do the run again next year!

Overall standings:
 - Schnelle Schnecken: 01:17:23,0
 - Die Lahmas 01:15:55,8
 - Plattfuß – Gazellen: 01:09:44,0
 - 3 AAAmigos: 01:04:20,3
