ONE FOR ALL: 30W DC CONVERTERS WITH A 1” X 2” FOOTPRINT AND 4:1 INPUT

The UEI30 family marks another milestone in the “revolution” that is leading to ever more compact DC modules. The converter modules deliver a tightly regulated 30W of output power along with 3.3VDC to 15VDC. A unique characteristic is that the entire family is suitable for a very broad range of uses, under the motto “one for all applications.” Making this possible are the compact size, the broadly accepted input voltage, the wide ambient temperature range (without the need for a cooling fan) and the flexible pinout options.

This newest converter family from MURATA_PS operates in the ambient temperature range from -40°C to +85°C, with specifications for derating or the use of forced cooling taking effect only starting at +70°C, depending on the specific model. With an open frame design, the UEI30 occupies only 24mm x 49mm of board space and a height of 9mm max. Two basic types offering a choice of input voltage range – 9VDC-36VDC or 18VDC-75VDC – are available and provide all of the following nominal output values: 12V / 24V / 36V / 48V / 60V. In addition to offering the standard W-pinout for both the 1” x 1” and 1” x 2” standard footprints, which enables an upgrade from typical 10W to 15W converters, the standard 1.6” x 2” module pinout is also optionally available. The latter versions typically deliver 20W-30W and, since most recently, as much as 60W (see the MURATA_PS UEI60 series). As a result, these modules can serve as the basis for applications offering a wide variety of design variants and meeting diverse power requirements. The forward-synchronous converters operate at up to 91% efficiency and offer 2,250VDC of basic insulation. They also feature self-protection functions, such as overcurrent protection in constant power mode and both overtemperature and overvoltage shutdown with automatic restart to safeguard proper functioning after unforeseeable events. Additional pins are provided for remote on/off and +/-10% trimming of the output voltage, while internal filters and application notes simplify EMC-compatible installation. Optional encapsulated/sealed versions are also offered in higher quantities.
