SAGEM COMMUNICATIONS AND CODICO: TOGETHER INTO THE FUTURE ON THE M2M MARKET!

In February of 2008, CODICO and SAGEM COMMUNICATIONS – the leading French manufacturer of M2M communication modules for GPRS/EDGE/3G – entered into an agreement to cooperate on the Central and Eastern European markets, where CODICO will henceforth distribute SAGEM’s newest M2M modules.

In recent years, SAGEM COMMUNICATIONS has increasingly focused on the M2M segment. This has resulted in the campaign “Freedom of Speech for Smart Machines,” for which the SAGEM development brought forth 5 new models. With these new modules, SAGEM is well positioned to solidify and expand its status as a leading supplier of M2M modules in Europe!

SAGEM’s two EDGE modules, the MO300 and XS300, are currently the smallest modules on the market to incorporate Class 10 EDGE technology. Both offer fully quad-band coverage (850/900/1800/1900MHz) and an extremely compact form factor – respectively measuring 43mm x 34mm x 3.5mm and 38.1mm x 33.4mm x 3.5mm. In Idle Mode, during which the modules remain registered with the network and able to receive calls, power consumption is less than 2mA. In the Off Mode, this figure drops below 50µA. The modules are equipped with a temperature sensor, digital audio interface and fully integrated Internet Protocol Stack (TCP, FTP, UDP, SMTP, POP3, etc.). And, thanks to their ruggedized design, they are ideally suited for many applications through to the industrial and automotive environments. The MO300 and XS300 are identical in functionality, with the only difference being the package structure: The MO300 comes with a housing and connector, while the XS300 comes in a BGA package.

The SAGEM COMMUNICATIONS MO300E / XS300E are the first modules allowing designers to write their own applications in their preferred language and run them inside the module in the (embedded) Linux environment. Like all SAGEM COMMUNICATIONS modules, the MO300E / XS300E are Class 10 quad-band solutions and support GSM, GPRS and EDGE. What’s more, the modules offer a broad range of connection possibilities, e.g., 2x UART, USB2.0, µWire, SPI, DAI, etc., with the many incorporated interfaces giving designers ultimate flexibility for their applications. With a ruggedized design and fully integrated TCP/IP stack, these modules, too, are ideal choices for applications extending all the way to the automotive environment. The MO300E and XS300E are 100% compatible with MO300 / XS300 modules.

With a mere 27mm x 27mm surface area, the SAGEM COMMUNICATIONS HiLo is the smallest GPRS module currently available on the M2M Market. “HiLo” stands for high features, high reliability and high quality in combination with low size and low power consumption at a very competitive price. Thanks to its small form factor, this fully quad band-capable module weighs in at less than 4 grams. And, due to the purely GPRS design, the HiLo consumes only 1.25mA to 1.5mA in Idle Mode (during which the module remains registered with the network and able to receive calls). The HiLo is also equipped with an integrated TCP/IP stack, with the operational temperature range extending from -40°C to +85°C. It has furthermore been tested to meet all automotive specifications and, with its ruggedized design, is ideal for automotive applications.
Initial samples and production quantities of the MO300, XS300 and HiLo are available now, with sampling of the MO300E and XS300E scheduled to begin in summer 2008.
