INTERVIEWER: Good day, Mr. Beck. Would you please introduce yourself to our readers? DBE: Hi to all Impulse readers and friends of CODICO! My name is Dieter Beck, and many of you throughout Germany will probably remember me, since I used to travel around the entire country as a field sales representative. Well, I’m still in field sales, but since October 2007 my territory is the part of Germany where the postal code begins with the number 7. Most customers in this area know me already as CODICO’s point of contact for connector technology. My goal for this year is to make an even stronger case for the products of our suppliers DINKLE and CVILUX throughout my sales territory – the “three musketeers on tour” so to speak.
INT: What is important to you in life, and what is so special about working for CODICO? DBE: Above all, my family and friends are very important to me. I try my best to spend time with them, but they do sometimes get the short end of the stick in all honesty. That’s because I make it a point to visit all of my customers – or partners, really, because that is how I like to view them – on a regular basis. I think very highly of CODICO because it’s a family owned and operated company that is also very dynamic in terms of growth. At CODICO there are so many opportunities to gain an even stronger market position, and to do so together, as a team. The decision making process is very streamlined and that helps a lot – as does the superb teamwork, which I’ve never experienced to such a degree previously. It’s really fantastic!
INT: Moving to the next topic, what are your hobbies, Mr. Beck? DBE: I enjoy a lot of different activities in my free time, but my favorite is riding my moped. I have a Honda CBR1100XX (152HP) and it really gets my heart beating faster! On weekends I often go on rides through the Black Forest or Alsace region. Of course, I also like to stay fit, so I go jogging every other day, and I organize hikes to go on with my family and friends, too. During the summer, I’ll throw in rafting and canyoning, and jet skiing is another sporting hobby of mine. When the weather gets cooler, we often go to musicals, and I also like to go snow skiing in winter.
INT: What are your life goals? DBE: I’m frequently asked what I expect out of life, and my standard answer is to enjoy life to the fullest because the hereafter is going to last long enough. I definitely live according to that motto, so I’ve already achieved most of my goals: like having a family that brings me great joy, putting a roof over our heads – which is of course a lot of work, too – and also having friends on whom I can always count, and a job that’s fun.
INT: What is your greatest wish? DBE: There isn’t much left to wish for, really. I like to think that what I have is quite plenty already, and having more would simply be too much. I suppose I do have one big wish, and that is to be able to keep what I have. And don’t even ask me with whom I’d trade places, because I wouldn’t want that for even a day! It simply isn’t possible to look into the soul or heart of another person.
INT: Is there anything you could never forgive? DBE: As a basic principle, I could never forgive violence against another human being or against animals. Other than that, I think it depends on the situation and how one sees it. I don’t want to make the blanket statement that I could never forgive this or that. Time changes things, and people change. And sometimes one’s own attitudes change, as well.
INT: What do you need to optimally start the day? DBE: To optimally begin the day I can’t get up later than 6AM – to my wife’s horror! Then, after my shower and a coffee, I’m ready for whatever comes along. So nothing can throw me for a loop, because my kids will already have done that.:)
INT: Is there anything that really bothers you? DBE: Our politicians really annoy me. Sometimes it seems to me that they are just part of a hopelessly overpriced kindergarten.
INT: Tell us something that is very typical of you. DBE: I’ll try anything that seems like fun!
INT: Thank you for the interview! DBE: My pleasure!
