The new XCL201/202 series are 400mA, 1.2MHz synchronous step-down DC/DC converters with an integrated inductor (coil). Including the 4.7uH coil, these converters measure a mere 2.5mm x 2.0mm and have a low package profile (height) of 1.0mm – one of the smallest form factors on the market for components of this kind. Only two additional (external) ceramic capacitors are required to configure a complete DC/DC solution capable of providing 85% efficiency. The XCL201/202 products are therefore ideally suited for applications having extreme space limitations and demanding high efficiency and low noise.

The permissible input voltage range extends from 2.0V to 6.0V, and the output voltage can be selected within the range of 0.8V to 4.0V with a +/-2% precision tolerance. Additional features include built-in current limiting and short-circuit protection. The converters are also equipped with a CE pin that permits them to be switched into standby. This reduces current consumption from an already low 21uA (typ.) in operation to less than 1µA in standby.
The XCL201 series is offered with PWM control only, and the XCL202 series with PWM/PFM (auto switching) control.
