AUTOMOTIVE-GRADE COMMON MODE CHOKES WITH HIGHER CURRENT RATING AND SMALLER FOOTPRINT!

MURATA has introduced SMD versions of its high rated current common mode choke family. The rated current has been increased from 3A to 10A, while the footprint has been reduced by approximately half. The new components measure 13.4mm (max.) x 8.9mm x 6.6mm (typical).

The PLT10HH series is ideal for suppressing noise from the numerous different electrical loads – e.g., pumps, air conditioning, power steering, brakes, etc. – found in electric and hybrid automobiles, and in other low fuel consumption vehicles. The various motors widely used in these vehicles generate electromagnetic noise during operation, and this noise must be reduced to avoid adversely affecting on-board electronic equipment. In addition, common mode chokes find use in circuits other than motors, such as in DC-DC converters and charging circuits to reduce the common mode noise transferred to these circuits from the power cables that lead to them.

The new series of automotive-grade common mode chokes consists of four components in all. The PLT10HH1026R0PN and PLT10HH9016R0PN both have a rated current of 6A DC and a typical common mode impedance of 1,000? and 900? respectively at 10MHz (based on a minimum common mode inductance of 20µH and 14µH respectively). The PLT10HH501100PN and PLT10HH401100PN both have a rated current of 10A DC and a typical common mode impedance of 500? and 400? respectively at 10MHz (based on minimum common mode inductance of 9µH and 6µH respectively). All products in the series are rated for 100VDC.
