MURATA LAUNCHES THE SMALLEST AND THE ONLY SURFACE-MOUNT PIR SENSOR

MURATA has announced the launch of its IRS-B series which consists of surface-mount pyroelectric infrared sensors (PIR) in double and quad designs. Not only are they probably the smallest PIR sensors in the world but also the only surface-mount components of this type.

The series is designed for a wide range of energy saving applications in consumer equipment. It consists of three models, IRS-B210ST01, IRS-B340ST02 and IRS-B345ST03. The blocks are extremely small, measuring 4.7mm x 4.7mm x 2.4mm. Their features also include high sensitivity, a large signal to noise ratio, insensitivity to temperature changes and low power consumption. The sensors are recommended for use as a low cost method of switching consumer appliances, such as televisions, digital photograph frames and lighting, from economy mode to normal mode when they detect human movement. The IRS-B345ST03 is also capable of detecting very slight hand or head movements.
