Due to such factors as the proliferation of LED backlights, demand for monolithic ceramic capacitors that combine small dimensions and high capacitance values with high rated voltages has been on the rise. In response, MURATA has used its unique materials technology to engineer improvements in the refinement and crystallization of its ceramic materials, with the result being a ceramic capacitor that has approximately double the capacitance of existing capacitors (previous maximum capacitance: 10µF) and requiring approx. 50% less mounting area (existing smallest size: 1206).

Thus, the new capacitor reduces mounting space and contributes to lower profiles in such electronic equipment as notebook computers, LCD TV panels and LED backlights. The new capacitor (type designation GRM21BR61E226ME44) has a nominal capacitance of 22µF and rated voltage of 25VDC. The operating temperature range is 55°C to +85°C and the device has X5R temperature characteristics.
