PLX TECHNOLOGY is already testing the first modules based on PCI Express (PCIe) Gen 3 technology. PLX intends to unveil these first versions to its key account customers and evaluate them further with these customers. The new PCIe Gen 3 switch products are then due to be available for all customers towards the end of the year. These products are based on a new 40 nm production technology.

PLX already supplies more than 1 million PCIe Express Lane products per quarter to its customers. This equates to a market share of more than 65% of the PCIe switch market. In the difficult market conditions that currently prevail, PLX has built on its leading position and is monitoring more and more new designs.

The new PCIe Gen 3 switches from PLX will be the first in the world to be fully compatible with the new PCIe Gen3 standard. The PCIe Gen 3 protocol supports speeds of up to 8TB/s. The new PCIe Gen 3 switches will further increase the throughput of current servers and help them increase their capacity. The company also supplies its own PLX software package, visionPAK, for development purposes.
