WONDER GECKO: ENERGY MICRO’s new energy-efficient ARM Cortex-M4 Microcontroller Family

ENERGY MICRO is going to expand its portfolio of ARM Cortex-M4F-core-based microcontrollers. The new Cortex-M4F microcontrollers will be called Wonder Geckos, and will be pin- and code-compatible within the same package variant. Wonder Gecko MCUs offer up to 256KB Flash and 32KB RAM, as well as extensive functionality to make the entire EFM32 series ideally suited for energy-saving applications. In active mode, the microcontroller can achieve a mere 180µA/MHz current consumption. In deep sleep mode, current consumption is just 400nA with RTC running, while in shut-off mode it drops to only 20nA. As with the existing product families, wake-up time for the new devices is a mere 2µs. Of course, the Wonder Gecko incorporates ENERGY MICRO’s popular and extremely flexible standby and sleep modes on board, along with intelligent peripherals that permit the integration of numerous functions without CPU wake-up. The LESENSE function block, a highly flexible power-saving sensor interface, furthermore enables the monitoring of up to 16 capacitive, inductive or resistive sensors. Monitoring occurs independently of the processor core, thus allowing the processor to remain in energy-saving mode (with low current consumption) for a long duration. Wonder Gecko processors are scheduled for availability in 2012.
