WiFi6 PCIe Radio Module Pineapple by 8DEVICES

WiFi6 PCIe radio module Pineapple from 8DEVICES

Enables WiFi6 Applications on Linux Based Processors

8DEVICES expands its range of WiFi6 solutions with the new radio module Pineapple. After the introduction of Mango, which is designed as a SOM and allows the full integration of an application on a single module, now the radio module version Pineapple has been released. It allows the enablement of WiFi6 applications on Linux based processor platforms, provided that the Host CPU offers an PCIe interface.

Pineapple is based on QUALCOMM's all new QCN-9074 radio IC, which supports three bands 2.4GHz, 5GHz and 6GHz (WiFi6E) in a 4x4 MIMO antenna configuration via a PCIe interface.

Samples More Information

Three Pineapple Versions Corresponding to the Bands

  • Pineapple 2: 2400-2500MHz
  • Pineapple 5: 4920-5925MHz
  • Pineapple 6: 5925-7125MHz

Pineapple 5 and 6 support up to 27dBm per antenna @ HT20/40/80/160, while Pineapple 2 supports up to 28dBm per antenna but with a limitations to HT20/40. Pineapple 5 and 6 achieve a maximum data rate of 480 Mbps in a HT160/MIMO4x4 configuration, whereas Pineapple 2 achieves a maximum of 1147Mbps @ HT40.

Available in Four Different Package Designs

All three versions are offered in four different package designs. The LGA package, with a small form factor of 35x47mm, offers a space-saving integration on a carrier PCB, where antennas can be connected to the module's antenna pads in the form of U.FL connectors or in a PCB antenna design. In addition, three other versions are offered as plug-in cards in a 50x61mm form factor with a mini-PCIe, M.2 A+E or M.2 B+M interface, where 4xU.FL connectors are already integrated on the cards.

Twelve Different Module Designs

This results in 12 different module designs. Taking into account that in the course of the year each version will also be available in the industrial temperature range -40°C to 85°C (the current solutions offer 0°C to 65°C), the total number will end up in 24 different module versions. Also encouraging is the news that all modules are supported by the Linux mainline driver upwards from version 4.4.60. Of course, all modules will be certified according to RED, FCC and IC.
