EMERSON has developed an open-frame power supply that delivers up to 250W of output power on a standard 3 x 5 (76mm x 127mm) footprint. While just five years ago devices of this size delivering 130W were praised as revolutionary, the available power density for open-frame solutions of this size has since doubled with closed-housing designs offering an even higher density.
EMERSONs LPS200 product family has been approved for medical applications according to IEC 60601 and industrial applications according to IEC 60950, and in both cases offer an unlimited universal input range of 85VAC to 264VAC. The new power supplies target applications that must meet one of the following two design requirements:
1.) 125W under convection cooling for dynamic load cycles with peak loads of up to 280W
2.) 200W to 250W of continuous power under 30CFM forced cooling
The devices are equipped with a +/-10% adjustable main output of 12V to 24V nominal and an additional 12V/1A output for the cooling fan supply. Remote sensing is available for the main output. The standard thermal operating range is specified at 0°C to +50°C, with a derating of 50% at +70°C and a guaranteed start-up as low as -20°C. A power fail signal activates during a loss of mains power to guarantee a regulated output voltage for at least 6ms across the entire specified application range after loss of mains occurs. The new LPS220 series is ideal for use in compact systems requiring high availability, e.g., industrial controls, medical applications intended for non-patient contact, dental/medical laboratory applications and the like.
