Cool technical perfection or a game of dice?

MURATA PS is stealing the show with its new, game-changing generation of isolated 1W converters and their 50% reduced footprint compared to the popular SOIC-14 pinout for SMD mounting. But the new product series is also a cool operator compared to similar competing products, as these new “DC cubes” feature 56% lower power dissipation. And, if that weren’t enough, output regulation performance has been improved by 40% vs. previous series.

MURATA PS also scores points for ease of production: The innovative modules are typically packaged in tubes (60 pieces) or tape & reel (300 pieces) and conform to JEDEC moisture sensitivity level 1 (MSL 1) for optimized automatic mounting in reflow soldering processes – with no special storage measures required.

Typically used as interface converters, the 1W modules provide 1kVDC isolation and operate in the -40°C to +85°C temperature range without derating. The currently available versions accept an input voltage range of 4.5Vdc - 5.5Vdc (at 7V absolute max.) or 10.8Vdc - 13.2Vdc (at 15V absolute max.) and deliver a single output: 5Vdc, 9Vdc, 12Vdc or 15Vdc. In capacitive loads, the converters’ start-up behavior becomes markedly delayed at 47uF – the recommended capacitive loading is no higher than 10uF. Typical efficiency is above 80% at a load of over 0.3W and only drops under 60% in the lower portion of the curve (at a load below 0.1W).
