DC/DC CONVERTERS WITH ULTRA-WIDE INPUT RANGE

Since the company was founded, MURATA POWER SOLUTIONS has focused on the development and manufacture of DC/DC converters with special properties for applications in the field of industrial instrumentation and automation. These applications, in typically compact designs, should usually do without fans and must operate continuously without faults for several years. DC voltage converters of such applications can only satisfy these requirements with the aid of the latest technology and design. In most cases, an extremely wide input range is demanded, in order that a single module can cover poor networks or a wide variety of battery systems. This is exactly what MURATA POWER SOLUTIONS has specialized in.

3 WATT MODULE WITH 9V DC - 60V DC INPUT

The encapsulated modules of the NDW3 series with an ultra-wide 7:1 input range deliver 12VDC at 100mA on a 1" x 1.3" base area (Fig. 1). This ensures a reliable power supply, especially for mobile applications comprising the widest range of battery systems and even under the worst voltage drops during critical start phases. The converters operate in a temperature range from -40°C to +85°C without the need for any derating and guarantee 1 kVDC isolation.

15 WATT CONVERTER WITH 14 – 160 V DC INPUT

The converters of the RUW15 series achieve the widest input ranges in the portfolio with 14VDC to 160VDC or 66VDC to 400VDC. They are specially designed for mobile applications and maintain an isolation strength of 4000VAC according to EN50155, the standard for railroad applications. The encapsulated modules on a footprint of just 2" x 2" (50mm x 50mm) operate without additional supporting cooling measures and demand no derating at ambient temperatures from -40°C to +85°C.  An over-temperature cutoff activates at a housing temperature of +110°C.

1/16 BRICK DELIVERS 50W WITH A 4:1 INPUT

The UWS series is currently the smallest available module size of the brick formats that are supplied with a 4:1 input range. With an input range of 18V DC – 75V DC, the converters supply output voltages of 3.3V, 5V or 12V and are fully isolated up to 2250VAC. Due to its extremely compact dimensions of 0.9" x 1.3" (23mm x 34mm), the 1/16 brick format as shown in Abbildung 2 cannot be equipped with a baseplate for cooling, as there is no room for the necessary fixing screws. Due to the compact design, an optional version with SMD pins is available. In order to cover the entire temperature range from -40°C to +85°C derating is specified, depending on the available airflow for cooling.

UP TO 100 W WITH 4:1 INPUT ON 1/8 BRICK

In the power range between 60W and 120W the modules of the UWE family are available on the typical form factor of the 1/8 brick with a footprint of 1" x 2.3". The height varies according to the design. The converters are available as open versions as shown in Abbildung 0.1 for convection or forced-air cooling or as a version with an integral baseplate for conducting dissipated heat via heat-sinks – directly to parts of the external panels of the application. For the lower performance range up to 70W, two different 4:1 input ranges are available with the option of 9VDC – 36VDC or 18VDC – 72VDC, whereas for the power range up to 120W only the upper input range is currently available. For industrial automation, an isolation strength of 2250VDC is advisable, as are the extremely low specifications for derating in the upper temperature range up to +85°C air temperature. The converters are certified in accordance with the safety-relevant IEC 60950, 2nd Edition, and for electromagnetic compatibility in accordance with EN 55022/CISPR 22. The different versions deliver output voltages of: 3.3V / 5V / 12V / 15V and 24VDC.

UP TO 200W WITH 4:1 INPUT ON 1/4 BRICK

The UWQ family supplies 12VDC with a power output power of up to 200W, from a wide input range from 18VDC to 72VDC, enabling a single module to cover battery systems rated at 24V, 48V and 60V. The converters in ¼ brick format can optionally be equipped for thermal contacting with a baseplate as shown in Fig.2 or are supplied as open boards and operate in the temperature range from -40°C to +85°C. The converters are fully isolated up to 2250VDC. International approvals compliant with EN 60950 support their worldwide use.
