ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY AND TOUGH AS WELL – NEW PLUG CONNECTOR IN ACCORDANCE WITH MILITARY

2010-04-19  SOURIAU

The new black zinc-nickel surface from SOURIAU is a replacement of equal value and quality for the earlier in-use cadmium-plated surfaces, which are used in particular in the military sector.

With the introduction of the RoHS Directive, the use of hazardous materials such as cadmium in electronic equipment is now prohibited. The Directive was originally issued with the use of domestic appliances in mind, but more and more users from other sectors are deciding to use cadmium-free plug connectors which conform to RoHS. In this situation, as well as the dark, non-reflective color, the resistance to environmental influences, such as salt water and specific chemicals, and the behavior with regard to heat and fire, all play a decisive part.  In addition, the new surface, like the cadmium-plated type, must be electrically conductive.

The SOURIAU zinc-nickel surface presents a housing transfer resistance (shell continuity) of 2.5m?, while the shielding attains a value of 90dB up to 100MHz transfer rates. The black zinc-nickel surface is available as standard with all MIL-DTL-38999 Series III plug connectors with screw locking, and likewise under the qpl standard designation. By mid-2010, all other plug connectors from this MIL Standard and the Series I and II with bayonet locking should also be available with the zinc-nickel surface. Price and delivery time are comparable to the previous coatings.
