Normally a DC/DC converter supplies a constant voltage at the output. If, however, you also want to secure the output and limit the current, an additional safety circuit is required.

Not so with the MP249x series from MPS. Designed to work as highly efficient non-synchronous DC/DC converters, the modules in this series also make it possible to limit the output current to the required value.

This means that power supplies can be achieved at low cost and in a space-saving design for chargers, USB supplies but also for automotive applications for cigarette lighters.

MP2498: 2 A buck converter with 100 V load-dump protection

The MP2498 combines the otherwise necessary transzorb, the DC/DC converter and the current limiter in a single module.

Output voltage: adjustable from 0.8 V – 15 V

MP2493: 2 A buck converter with good EMC

The MP2493 is used if load-dump is not absolutely necessary. Its standard input voltage range extends up to 36 V whilst its current limit can also be programmed at up to 2 A.

This component has been particularly enhanced to ensure good EMC.
