MURATA PS: A “POWER BREAK” for 3-Watt DC/DC Converters

A new family of 3-watt isolated DC/DC converters breaks with traditional form factors. Despite being designed to meet heightened industrial demands, the MEE3 series from MURATA PS is able to pack its power into a SIP4 package, a form factor that previously met only 1W and 2W power requirements.

MEE3 versions are available immediately for a regulated input voltage of either 5V or 12V and offering the popular single output voltages of 5V, 9V, 12V, or 15V (DC). The fully encapsulated modules provide 1000VDC isolation and can deliver full power (without derating) throughout the operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C. Typical efficiency is from 83% to 89%, depending on the version. With a switching frequency of 60kHz, technical implementation is via proprietary toroidal transformers. As “quasi unregulated” converters, the modules deliver a maximum output voltage deviation of 4% to 8% (depending on the type) for the entire specified range.

Type testing of the MEE3 series to UL/EN 60950 standards supports use in worldwide approved applications. Engineering responsibility for development through to the continuous monitoring of production processes, including 100% burn-in testing, lies with MURATA’s Milton Keynes site. The converters are produced entirely in MURATA’s own, newly equipped plant in China, thus ensuring a favorable price-performance ratio over the long run.
