MURATA’s pyroelectric infrared (PIR) motion sensor family now includes an even smaller, more cost-effective SMD version!

MURATA’s new PIR motion sensor – designated the IRS-A200ST01-R1 – is constructed with H-shaped dual electrodes, like the existing IRA-E700ST through-hole (wire leaded) version. Measuring a mere 5.7mm x 6.7mm, and with a profile of only 2.6mm, the new sensor enable 60% savings in board area and 55% savings in height over traditional through-hole (wire leaded) PIR sensors. Due to the low height in particular, the new types are ideal for use in innovative slim-design or low-profile OEM products. The sensors also exhibit high sensitivity and an optimal signal-to-noise ratio, excellent stability against temperature changes and white light, and enhanced immunity against electromagnetic interference.



A range of lenses is available to suit a variety of applications, with standard lenses supporting a sensing distance of 3m to 5m or 5m to 7m. Smaller lens designs are also available and provide a sensing distance of 10 to 12m.

Thanks to their innovative SMD design, MURATA’s new PIR motion sensors open a range of new application options, such as consumer electronics, mobile communication devices and game consoles.
