MURATA refined its unique, high-precision manufacturing technology for SMD film (chip) inductors such that the transmission characteristics of these new choke coils feature improved cut-off frequency compared to previous products. Indeed, MURATA managed to increase the cut-off frequency of the DLP11TB series to 8GHz or more, which in turn enables USB 3.0 SuperSpeed signals to be transmitted at more than satisfactory quality.
The recent debut of solid state disks (SSDs) and other high-speed peripheral devices has led to development of the USB 3.0 standard, which significantly increases data transmission speed compared to USB 2.0s maximum of 480Mbps. The USB 3.0 SuperSpeed mode enables data to be transmitted at up to 5Gbps, a more than 10-fold increase vs. its USB 2.0 predecessor. At such high data transmission rates, it becomes difficult to address noise issues and at the same time maintain satisfactory signal quality using a conventional common mode choke coil.
Thanks to the DLP11TB series' tiny size a mere 1.25mm x 1.0mm it is optimally suited for use in mobile devices. With the boost in cut-off frequency to more than 8GHz, the detrimental impact of noise on desired signals is reduced to an absolute minimum. Other key features include a high common mode impedance of 80? at 100MHz and a characteristic impedance of 90? (conforms to the USB 3.0 standard). Noise outflow due to mode conversion is minimal.
