SAFETY FOR YOUR LED CHAINS – MP4690 LED BYPASS

There is often a need to prevent a whole line failing due to a single defective LED, particularly in applications which require a high level of reliability or where there are restricted maintenance opportunities. 

MPS has now unveiled a MOSFET-based smart bypass for precisely these applications in the form of the MP4690. In the event of an open circuit caused by a defective LED the MP4690 provides an alternative current path. If the LED is cured after a certain time the MP4690 automatically goes to reset mode and waits for the next failure.

This small block has just two connections and creates an extremely low drop in voltage which means that very low line losses occur during the monitoring phase.

Ideally the MP4690 is used in parallel to every LED so that in the event of a defect, all the other LEDS in the same line will continue to function normally.

Features:
- Resistance during the active bypass: 0.22?
- Closed-circuit current during passive monitoring: <1µA

The MP4690 is available in an SOD123 package.
