The new trend towards Cover Lens

In the world of displays there are always new trends to follow. Just a few examples are the sizes of the displays, which in the industrial sector are also frequently oriented towards the big Smartphone and Tablet market, as well as features such as the capacitive touchpanel, which is being used more and more thanks to its intuitive user-friendly operation.

For some time we have been seeing a new trend in the display industry, which is mostly associated with the capacitive touch panel. What is known as the Cover Lens, or also the Cover Glass, is winning a reputation for itself in a whole range of application sectors, such as building automation, living room control systems, and so on, becoming more and more of an essential. In the past, it was mostly only seen in applications such as providing protection against vandalism, dust, and spray water, as well in outdoor situations, but today its use as a necessity is often secondary, and is moving into the background in comparison with the Cover Lens as a design element.

As already mentioned, here too there is a move towards the trends of the consumer market. In a range of different Smartphones, such as the iPhone, the Cover Lens has become an essential as a design element and safety factor. Specifically, with the manufacturers AMPIRE and MULTI-INNO Technology, we are offering customers the opportunity to design a complete customer-specific Cover Lens. These characteristics can be adapted exactly to suit a customer’s particular wishes:

- Shape
- Dimensions
- Thickness (depending on material and IC)
- Material (e.g.: PMMA, glass, etc.)
- Printing
- Logo print
- Taking account of IR sensors
- Adhesive bonding process (standard or optical)

These criteria allow for a 100% unique design to be created. In most cases, the complete unit is supplied by our manufacturers in conjunction with a capacitive touchpanel and a TFT. What is known as optical bonding, as the adhesive bonding process, improves the optical properties even more, and reduces further light reflections.
