Narrow Band PLC
Narrow Band PLC - PLC with greater range but lower data rate
The term Narrow Band Power Line Communication (NB PLC) designate a form of communication where multiple carrier frequencies are being used to transmit data. NB PLC operates in the range of 5 kHz to 500 kHz.

Modulation schemes are Frequency Shift Keying (FSK) or Quadrature Phase Shift Keying (QPSK). Beside them modern solutions also use the Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) method. With OFDM the user data is split into several data streams with lower data rate. Each of these lower rate data streams are then modulated by a conventional modulation scheme such as Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM) with small bandwidth and after the modulation the RF signals are combined. At the end, this method results in a robust transmission system with reasonable data rates.
BB PLC can be applied and used on any kind of wires, independently if there is an AC voltage on the line or DC voltage present in order to supply other components connected to these wires or if these are dead wires.
The attenuation of the signal on the wires is relatively low because of the low frequencies, which extends the reach. Reach and achievable user data rate are much dependent on the capacity of the wires and the distortion.
In the area of NB PLC CODICO offers integrated circuits, modules and evaluation systems according to the IEEE 1901.2 Standard. Beside that several other operation modes can be selected like G3-PLC, PRIME, G.hnem etc.
