SYNAPTICS’ Torq™ Edge AI Platform in the SL216x Series
With five pin-compatible processor families, the SL216x series covers a wide range of AI-native edge solutions – from battery-powered, passively cooled devices to high-performance industrial vision systems. It is the first to combine SYNAPTICS’ Torq™ Edge AI platform with transformer support, the CNN-capable Torq T1 NPU, and the first production implementation of Google’s Coral NPU. This integrated architecture enables dynamic support for new operators, making edge AI designs future-proof. Torq provides developers with full flexibility through a disruptive, end-to-end compiler and runtime environment based on the open-source IREE/MLIR projects, supporting both standard and emerging model formats such as LiteRT, PyTorch, ONNX, and JAX.

SDK for Rapid Prototyping
The Software Development Kit (SDK) for the SYNAPTICS Astra Machina SL2600 series is available on GitHub and enables rapid prototyping of multimodal, AI-native IoT applications. It features a flexible design with a core compute module, I/O baseboard, extension cards for Wi-Fi/Bluetooth, debugging, and programmable interfaces. The evaluation kit supports the SL2619 SoC family, which offers an excellent price-performance ratio for IoT applications and is based on an open Yocto Linux software environment. The Astra Machina SL2610 kit will be available soon via the CODICO Sample Shop. Starting Q1/2026, CODICO will also offer SOMs based on the SL2610.
Why is the SYNAPTICS Astra SL261x SoC Family Suitable for Edge AI?
The Astra SL261x family integrates a highly efficient 1-TOPS NPU optimized for transformer models, PSA Level 3 security, and the Torq™ Edge AI platform with Coral NPU support. This enables high-performance, multimodal edge AI with low power consumption, minimal latency, and maximum design flexibility for IoT, industrial, and medical devices.
