Ag401 from SILVERTEL: Combining PoE and USB-C

A Fully Isolated USB-C PD Output

SILVERTEL introduces the Ag401, an innovative module that combines Power over Ethernet (PoE) with USB-C Power Delivery (PD). The Ag401 is fully IEEE802.3bt compliant, presenting the required PoE ID and signature identifying itself as a Class 8 Powered Device (PD), requesting up to 70W of power from a connected PSE switch or injector.

Automatic Voltage and Power Negotiation

The Ag401 uses the USB-C Configuration Channel (CC) lines to automatically negotiate the required output voltage and power with the connected device. Power, USB-C data, and control signals are then combined through a physical USB-C interface to provide a fully configured USB-C Power Delivery port.

Isolated Output with Preconfigured PDOs

The fully isolated output provides 1.5kV surge protection and complies with USB-C PD Rev 3.1 V1.2. Preconfigured Power Data Objects (PDOs) are available at 5V/3A, 9V/3A, 15V/3A and 20V/3A, enabling the power supply of a wide range of USB-C devices.

How Does the Ag401 Simplify the Development of PoE-Powered USB-C Devices?

By handling both PoE communication and USB-C Power Delivery negotiation, the Ag401 significantly reduces development effort. It provides a ready-to-use interface for supplying USB-C devices reliably and in compliance with industry standards via Power over Ethernet.
