AKM's Converter for Energy Harvesting
DC/DC Converter ICs for IoT Solutions
Energy harvesting, using renewable energy such as light and heat to generate electricity, has a potential to power IoT equipment.
Asahi Kasei Microdevices (AKM) offers DC/DC converter ICs for energy harvesting that can convert several µW and several tens of µW to a useable power level.
As Energy Harvesting source, 1-cell solar cells, radio waves, thermoelectric power generation cells and vibration power generation cells can be used.

AKM offers today two converters for energy harvesting applications. The AP4470 works with an input power of 1µW, so it can work with a very small solar cell or photodiode.
Features:
- Can start from input voltage of 0.2V and input power of 1µW
- Built-in power path control function
- HWQFN 20pin 3.0x3.0x0.75mm (0.5mm pitch) package
The second part is the AP4473. This IC operates with an input voltage of 15mV, which enables it to use energy generated with the temperature difference between a body temperature and a room temperature.
Features:
- Can start from input voltage of 15mV and input power of 10uW
- HWQFN 20pin 3.0x3.0x0.75mm (0.5mm pitch) package
For an easy Design-In AKM can offer evaluation kits.
