QCA7006AQ: Next-Generation Powerline Chip (PLC) for EV Charging Applications
QUALCOMM Technologies Inc. recently announced a next-generation powerline communication (PLC) chip to address the needs for electric vehicle charging applications (on both EV and EVSE). The QCA7006AQ is based on QUALCOMM’s market proven QCA700x family and is used in electric vehicles and charging stations worldwide.

CODICO, as an important QUALCOMM partner, provides the key facts of the new QCA7006AQ as follows:
- Compliant with the HomePlug Green PHY (HPGP) specification
- Complete AEC-Q100 Automotive Grade 2 qualification
- Ambient operating temperature range of -40°C to +105°C
- Support of two host communication interfaces SPI and Ethernet
- Pin-to-pin compatibility with QCA7005 which is used for the moment on almost all EV car lines and most of EVSE available on the market
- Compact 8x8mm package QFN68 with 0.4mm pitch
- Support of advanced bidirectional communication in smart grid applications
- Firmware enables optional HomePlug AV support in addition to HomePlug GreenPHY with 200 Mbps PHY rate (95 Mbps UDP throughput over Ethernet)
The QCA7006AQ is planned to be available for production by early Q4 2022.
