Detailed Information and Product Specification

In high-voltage inverters, two 400V-450V electrolytic capacitors are often connected in series to achieve 800-900V. This is necessary because a single capacitor with a diameter of 20-40mm cannot reach such a high voltage with high capacitance. This serial connection requires a diameter of over 20mm each and some space between the capacitors.

In terms of the mounting space required, it would be advantageous to connect only one electrolytic capacitor covering this high voltage, rather than two in series. This is made possible by the AISHI LU series, where one piece with 40mm diameter is sufficient without the need for an additional safety distance.

Check below example specification of LU series:

  • Example Part Number: ELU3UM221Y45PTP
  • Operating Temperature Range: -20°C ~ +85°C
  • Endurance: +85°C, 2,000hrs
  • Rated Voltage: 800V
  • Surge Voltage: 850V
  • Capacitance: 220μF
  • Ripple Current: 1.00 Arms/85°C, 120Hz
  • Dimension (ΦDiameter x Length): 40x45mm (F=22.5mm)

The most important criterion to reach higher withstanding voltage is the dielectric strength of the oxide layer on the aluminium foil. The stronger the layer, the higher the nominal voltage. In order to produce a thicker oxide layer, a long and enormous amount of energy is required in the production process.

An advantage for AISHI: in the province of Xin-Jiang (China), where energy costs are still very low, they have built their own factory together with a Japanese foil supplier. Not only are they producing there, but they are also researching better films for the future to expand the availability of higher voltages and capacities.

The second important criterion is the electrolytic fluid itself. Even if the film can withstand high voltages, you need a suitable electrolyte that will not fail in such a high-voltage environment. AISHI has enough technical know-how to keep the capacitors in a safe range to meet all customer requirements.

The LU series is currently available at 800V. AISHI is working towards reaching 900V in the future and +105°C thereafter.
